Accelerated Christian Education Curriculum (ACE)
At Shanan Christian School we offer a unique curriculum as it is Bible-based and is presented in PACE form (booklets or modules). There are 12 PACEs to complete per subject per academic year. This is an American curriculum, which complies with the CAPS requirements in South Africa. Where applicable SA PACEs have been developed to ensure CAPS compliance. Learners set their own goals daily (under supervision) and strive to complete them to the best of their ability. Learners thus progress at their own unique pace, with the focus on mastering one PACE at a time. The curriculum ensures that academic excellence is maintained.
Graduation Certificate:
A Foreign Qualification equal to the South African National Senior Certificate, is made possible with a dual-enrolment through Lighthouse Christian Academy (LCA) in Grade 12. This option affords the learners the freedom to continue with the PACEs up to Gr 12. LCA is a distance learning institution in the USA which uses the ACE program and offers an accredited diploma. All learners who meet the requirements for graduation will receive an accredited diploma and transcript from LCA. This qualification (USA registered qualification Foreign Qualification NQF4) is recognised by SAQA (the body that provides Foreign Qualifications evaluation). To be eligible for acceptance into a SA tertiary institution, a learner will require a letter of Foreign Conditional Exemption from USAF (Universities of SA – Matriculation Board).
Subjects required for the LCA diploma are Maths, English 1st Language, Afrikaans 2nd Language, Science, Social Studies (History and Geography), Biblical Studies, Computer Studies, Advanced Biology.
Discipleship
Each week we have a new spiritual theme, which ties into our theme for the year. The theme is introduced by our school chaplain at the weekly assembly and further unpacked in each Learning Centre during the morning devotion time.
At Shanan, learners are also encouraged to memorize scripture each week. In this way they become well-acquainted with God’s Word so that the principles and truths found therein becomes a part of who they are. This process is also so important to the molding of Godly character into each learner.
Our seniors attend a weekly discipleship session with our chaplain. They will then adapt and share this lesson age appropriately with a small group of younger learners assigned to them. During breaks they are encouraged to look out for their ‘disciples’. In this way relationships are being built between older and younger learners. What a special privilege this is for our learners!
