The ‘His Servants’ programme gives practical expression of growth in Christ-like character through service.
Throughout each level, learners work through age-appropriate challenges and service opportunities, earning recognition on a rank-by-rank basis as they grow. While certificates mark milestones along the way, the real reward is seen in the development of servant-hearted, Christ-centred young people.
At its core, His Servants is about more than activities – it is about shaping learners who serve willingly, love practically and live out their faith in everyday life.
The ‘Smart Choices’ programme is a values-based sexuality and life skills curriculum developed by AEE Group and Dr Darleen Edwards-Meyer. It is a CAPS-aligned alternative to Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), offering a family- and values-driven approach to sensitive Life Orientation content.
At Shanan, we are committed to protecting the innocence and developmental readiness of every learner while equipping them with age-appropriate life skills and strong Biblical values. We therefore implement a structured programme that addresses personal development, relationships and wellbeing in a responsible and carefully guided way.
Content is intentionally aligned with the emotional maturity of learners, ensuring that children are not exposed to concepts before they are ready. We believe sensitive topics should be handled with wisdom and care, building healthy identity, strong character and a consistent values-based foundation between school and home.
Our Career Development programme is designed to help learners explore their interests, discover their unique talents and begin to understand how these can be directed towards meaningful career pathways. Through guided activities, learners are encouraged to recognize their strengths and consider how they can be developed to reach their full potential.
The programme also plays an important role in building self-worth and confidence, as learners begin to understand that each individual has a unique purpose and contribution to make. By introducing learners to a range of career possibilities in an age-appropriate way, we help them make informed choices about their future with clarity and confidence.
Ultimately, Career Development at Shanan is about more than choosing a career – it is about helping learners grow in purpose, direction and belief in the value they bring to the world.
The Shanan Learner Representative Body (LRB) gives learners a meaningful voice in school life. It provides a structured platform for learners from Grade 1 to 12 to share ideas and raise suggestions.
The LRB is elected annually through a nomination and voting process. Candidates are nominated from Grades 8 to 11 and elected by the wider learner body. Each member serves a two-year term, promoting continuity, leadership development and peer mentorship between senior and junior members.
The LRB meets regularly to discuss learner input and review suggestions before presenting them to school leadership. Through this process, the LRB builds leadership and accountability, encouraging learners to represent their peers with integrity while actively contributing to school improvement.
At Shanan, awards recognize far more than academic and sporting success — they celebrate consistency, Christian character and excellence across every area of school life. Learners are encouraged and motivated through regular opportunities for recognition throughout the year.
Each term includes a range of incentives and awards such as Weekly Merit recognition, Friday early home-time privileges, Honour Roll Certificates and Club 1000 and Club 2000 milestones (for consistent 100% achievement in PACE Tests). Learners are also recognized for sporting achievements, Eisteddfod participation and Olympiad success.
Shanan uniquely honours Scripture memorization and consistent engagement with God’s Word, alongside Christian Character awards, Mission Trip participation and ‘His Servants’ Service Awards, all of which reflect our commitment to developing Christ-centred learners.
The annual Prizegiving celebrates sustained excellence across the year, recognizing achievement in academics, leadership, Christian character, service, sport, and the arts. Top honours include Dux Learner and Tri-Star Awards, while learners may also earn Scrolls, Half and Full Colours for consistent excellence. The prestigious Shanan Honours Blazer is awarded to learners who achieve three sets of Full Colours and demonstrate outstanding Christian character.
